How to Improve Your Golf Grip

Grip Type One of the most important aspects of having a proper grip is the angle of the palm and the angle of the index finger. Interlocking Grip The most common type of interlocking grip, which is used by golfers of all ages, is the interlocking grip. The interlocking grip consists of interlocking pinky fingers. To use this grip you must start with your right hand facing the target. Then place your left hand, free hand and thumb on the shaft and begin to move your hands back and forth.

Overlapping Grip The overlapping grip is similar to the interlocking grip, except you alternate hands. This is the opposite of the interlocking grip. To use the overlapping grip you must start out with your right hand facing the target. Place your left hand on the right thumb and left index finger, forming a strong grip. Then move your right thumb out to the side. This is the opposite of the interlocking grip.

Wrist Rotation / Twisting Your wrists in such a way that they face away from the target is also a great way to improve your grip. By moving your wrists in this fashion, the golf club stays close to the player. However, the wrists should not be so relaxed that they open and close. A common mistake that many amateur golfers make is they try and force the golf club to stay where they are. By forcing the wrist to rotate far too much, the player’s wrists can become injured.
