How important is the golf swing plane? Well, for some golfers its very important and for others not important at all. So, what is the golf swing plane? Well this is a fairly simple concept and I will explain what I mean. You need to follow a path that goes around the golf club in a smooth continuous motion.
So if we take a look at a golf swing plane for example, you could describe it as follows. It is something that television experts and golf professionals talk about lots but yet often forget to get into too much detail about. One of the main reasons for this, believe me, it can often be quite hard to understand and even harder to alter. However one of the best ways to improve your swing plane is to actually practice it.
So lets say you want to straighten your golf swing plane. To do this you will actually need to move your hands about twice as far forward as your shoulders. Then set your golf club up so the shaft is at right angles to the line of flight of your hands. OK, so now we have our hands on the golf club and we have made our hands as close to the shaft as we can get them. What next?
When we come into the backswing the golf swing plane needs to be at exactly 90 degrees to the ground. You then turn your body to the inside slightly to make sure that you keep the club headed in the same direction as your backswing. So now your left shoulder is over your right and the ball is positioned on the inside of your right foot.
OK, now we come into the downswing where our golf swing plane needs to be exactly one plane longer than your backswing. This is why most golfers are unable to stay on the plane for more than a few seconds in their backswing. The key here is to keep everything lined up correctly and to keep it moving in the same direction as your body, which means keeping your eyes on the ball through your entire backswing.
A lot of golfers find that it helps them if they look down at the ball a little as they start their backswing. This keeps them looking along the lines of the face of the club for about one to two seconds. This keeps them looking in the correct area and makes them feel much more in control. It also helps them maintain a straight line between their feet and the club. The fact is that this is exactly what your body needs to stay on the plane and it will happen naturally as long as you remember these two main keys.
If you are serious about improving your golf swing plane, then one of the most important things that you can do is work on keeping your shoulders down and your left arm down by your side throughout your backswing and downswing. This is how your shoulders and left arm should move as your body converts to the top of your swing. Remember to keep your shoulders down throughout your swing. Do not try and lift them or swing them away from your body. This is just one of the most basic fundamental parts of a consistent golf swing plane series.
Another thing that is very important is to make sure that your left shoulder stays down throughout the swing. This is the easiest way for you to hook or slice the golf ball and it is one of the main reasons why so many golfers fail at putting. It does not matter how much work you do on your putt, if you do not have your shoulders lined up correctly you will not hit the ball correctly. Hopefully I have helped you understand some of the things that you need to keep your setup in proper order to have a better golf shot.
