What Golf Clubs Should I Carry?

So you want to start playing the great game of golf, but just don’t know what golf clubs to carry. You might not even be able to tell what golf clubs you should be carrying in your bag at all. I know I can’t. This is why I wrote this article for you. Here are a few tips on what golf clubs, you should always carry.

o If you are going to be carrying anything more than a set of drivers and a putter you should definitely carry an iron. There are some pretty good irons that come in under $200 that will get you out on the course and play well. You don’t want to carry around too much of a heavy iron if you are a beginner because they can be pretty hard to swing. You also don’t want to have to carry around your iron all day because it wears out quickly. You should aim for a drivers set or something similar to that when first starting out.

o If you are going to be carrying around some woods as well as you want to make sure you carry some irons with them as well. It helps to be able to transition your woods into irons fairly easily. Also the woods don’t really do too well in the wind like the driver does so you want to avoid dragging them around like the driver does. Your goal is to hit your drives and putters with the wind in your face and you want your woods to help you do that.

o If you are just getting started and you don’t know what golf clubs to carry around at all then you might want to start with a driver and a putter. You don’t need anything else when you are just learning the game. Your first clubs might not be the best but there are some good ones that will get you by for a while. A wedge is a great beginner club to start out with as it tends to swing the ball very little and get it out of the air very quickly. As you get better with your driver and putter you can move onto more expensive clubs but for now I would recommend that you stick with the drivers and putters.

o You might also want to carry a fairway wood or hybrid as an option. These are a bit heavier than a driver but they give you more distance on your shots. Also some hybrids actually allow you to switch from a putting to a driving position so they can be used in different situations. Fairways woods tend to be more expensive than drivers but I would highly recommend one because of its accuracy and distance ability.

o If you are serious about the game and you have a few months or years of practice under your belt then you might want to consider getting yourself a few putters and a head set. I wouldn’t carry too many of these, because I usually only use one when I really need it. The only time I usually carry multiple putters is if I’m taking one to a tournament. Having a headset on my clubs is good for practice and can also be a good investment because they usually have more weight than a driver.

When you are trying to decide what golf clubs to carry what you really need to do is break them down into their three categories. If you are just starting out you should probably go with a driver, a putter, and a woods. The reason for this is because these are the most common golf clubs a beginner should start out with and they are also the most expensive. If you want to break these down into categories then you could try to envision what you will be using these clubs for. For example if you are looking to get strokes over par then you would carry a putter or a driver, depending on what you plan on doing with these clubs.
